The End Game is Not Impeachment
Vanity | 12/28/2019 | Vanity

Apologies if this has been hypothesized before. The Democrats know that impeachment in the senate is a no win for them at this point. Their own internal polls show dropping support among most but their radical supporters. A fair trial in the senate would expose their malfeasance for all to see and expose them to committing perjury under oath. Any attempt to stifle exculpatory evidence or contradictory testimony would be exposed for the world to see. They want to drag this on as long as possible so that when RGB passes, they can hop on the ‘unacceptable for a President under shadow of impeachment to appoint a Supreme Court Justice’ meme. Not to mention that he should not be allowed to grant any pardons or executive orders for the same reason.

You give them way too much credit.

They simply are afflicted with TDS, severe case of it.

That, and a few idiot bartenders and muzzies that wrangled their way to the front of the line and now garner a whole wad of attention, are actually handling the wheel of the house ship.

That’s all you have, is talking down to people.

You have no real interest in the actual subject matter.

OK, here is a “what if?”

What happens if we win the house in 2020? Can we rescind the impeachment?

“The Constitution allows the Senate to set it’s own rules.“

That means the SENATE can declare when to ACCEPT the articles of impeachment from the house.

But it is up to the Senate.

No one else.

Per the constitution.

So your “I can’t understand it for you” comment was misdirected when you first applied it to those of us here who tend to believe that no further action by Pelosi is required, as if we were children misunderstanding the civics lesson from teacher 17th.

Sorry if I’m misconstruing your condescension, but that’s the way it came across to me as condescension, like only you have a valid opinion on this very important matter and anyone who disagrees with you is beyond your godlike ability to “understand it for us”.

I will repeat myself:

1- The Constitution says the Senate has the responsibility for ‘trying’ impeachments from the House.

2- The Constitution allows the Senate to set it’s own rules.

3- The Senate rules say that they will begin action on impeachment
when the House presents their findings to the Senate.

Thus far, the House has not presented their findings to the Senate.
So, we are at an impasse.

I do not know how else to explain it to you.
I can not understand it for you.

But don’t you see that #3 can be changed by the Senate?

#1 can only be changed by a constitutional amendment
#2 can only be changed by a constitutional amendment

#3 is a SENATE rule that can be changed by the SENATE anytime the SENATE wants to make the rule change... as stipulated by #2 above

Why is this so hard for you?

I agree with Mat_Helm on this subject.

Posted many days ago and in my opinion still the best FR post on this subject.

Just ask yourself this...
Why should the Senate change their rules now?
The rules have been in effect since the Clinton years.
Should the Senate change their rules now to appease the House?

I scoff at that thought.

I am saving my last shot of 12 year old Elijah Craig (no longer available).
until new year's eve (my 68th birthday).
I sincerely hope you have a great roaring 20's...

Why should the Senate change their rules now?

Because of the totally unfair and transparently un-American behavior on the House side?

Anyway, I also wish you a Happy and Roaring 20s.

I sincerely hope that the Trump economy to date will be in the “you ain’t seen nothing yet” category and blast us off into a Roaring 20s that will not only surpass the one of the last century but will not be interrupted by massive failures of the Federal Reserve like the last one was.

The condescension is not necessary. I understand what you’ve written (and in fact understood it before I posted). My point is that regardless of the procedural and legal machinations required for an official ‘impeachment’, they (the Democrats and their media) will try to use it as a cudgel for the rest of DJT’s presidency no matter what stage or state the process is in, whether it be a standstill (which they want) or a trial (which they don’t want).

Having said that, I don’t necessarily think it is a bad thing because the shenanigans seem to be swaying some middle of the road or indifferent voters away from the Dems and NO Trump supporters away from the President.
