Recursion has its place.

I picked up a patent in Electronic Warfare because I figured out that recursion with variable swap was the way to computationally solve a problem in antenna design. The government owns it but my name is on it.

Recursion also helps in making a quick function to calculate factorials (which I used a lot in my Combinatorics class a loooong time ago). Congrats on the patent. For me I started with FORTRAN IV (66) on a Cyber, did FORTRAN 77/Ada/C/C++ on various flight sims, and now do C/C++/Python on various platforms. Fun stuff!
