When we had “embedded journalists”, they got to see a lot of “unscripted” stuff, including American deaths, deaths of women and children, collateral damage, etc. And that unscripted stuff ended up in our news, and was used against us by our enemies. War is hell, and controlling the message (propaganda) is sometimes key to winning. Giving the enemy free access to propaganda would be pretty stupid. The Russians seem to understand this a little better than us.
