I think the best question in response is, “What do you mean by that?” In this case, “What do you mean by asking such questions?” “Are you trying to demean me or trying to sure up your shaky worldview? Or are you truly searching for truth?” The best follow up is, “So how did you come to that conclusion?” Or in this case, “Why do you think that way? See, if you are asking to learn the truth, then let’s talk; else, I resent your question and your supercilious attitude.”
