Ive had the same thoughts for the last couple weeks because I cannot figure out why the democrats are so hellbent on this when they should know there is no chance of the senate voting to remove.
So I did a thought experiment, what evidence could convince me that Trump did abuse his power by withholding aid to the Ukraine to force them to start an investigation into the son of his primary opponent in the 2020 election.
The only evidence that would convince me of this, and therefore support impeachment and removal, is an audio or video recording of Trump saying something along the lines of; Im withholding aid from the Ukraine until Zelensky starts an investigation on Hunter Biden to help me defeat his dad in the 2020 election.
What do I think the chances are that he said anything like that? Less than 1%. (I wont rule it out entirely because anythings possible.). Without that kind of evidence the support for removal stays under 60% and with less than 60% approval there is no way they get a two thirds majority to vote for removal in the senate.

Yes. They know that.
The point of impeachment isn’t to win a trial in the Senate.
It’s to attempt to manipulate the 2020 election with something other than the “issues”.
. ..from one veteran to another, ..I disagree. There’s NOTHING (within reasonable limits) that Trump could do to get me to vote for a Democrat!
This is a desperation move by the democrats
The “abuse of power” charge is meant to protect a President Biden. If Biden is elected President, there is certainly enough evidence to impeach him. However, after Trump has been acquitted of the “abuse of power” charge, then the democrats have a weak argument that Biden cannot be removed from office because a precedent was set with Trump.
