Remember, this is a movie about an over weight white guy that was wrongly accused. I doubt anyone under 30 remembers the case. There’s no sex, violence, or comedy. Its a good movie but will not attract a broad audience, it will also not get positive media attention for obvious reasons.

The Insider was the same way. It was about a white guy that was a whistleblower, was fired from a lucrative job because of it, and then was put through the wringer in the courts. The movie was a box office sleeper and made all its money on video and pay-tv channels.

You hit the nail on the head: A over-weight nice White guy that is not a racist or reprobate of some sort, and the icing on the top, he was innocent and victimized by the authorities.

“I doubt anyone under 30 remembers the case.”

Most people going to see this movie will go because Eastwood makes great movies but the subject matter is not going to stir many people that age.

I have a friend who is 40ish and he has no idea who Richard Jewell is. Heck, he didn’t even recall there was a bombing at the Atlanta games. I can’t say I blame him that much as it’s not an event that one hears about very often. I think the only time I have heard Richard Jewell mentioned over the years is when Hannity brings him up.
