No, but it sends a message, and alerts others like her that it's dangerous to be roaming the streets and parks of New York at night in pursuit of whatever good time you're looking for. Kids think their invincible. They always think it won't happen to them...that this kind of stuff happens to other people. It doesn't hurt to give them a "wake-up" call on how easy it is to lose your life for the dumbest reasons.

Check out Google Maps sometime. The park is literally across the street from the college dorms. She wasn’t venturing into some random area or downtown Mogadishu. That’s why this incident is so shocking. Based on Yelp reviews, along with some photos, this seems like a pretty nice park:

I have read that other Barnard students have said that they’d been warned to stay out of that park, which indeed is just a block over from their college, after dark.
