After Boris Johnson's Big Win, Scotland Primed to Leave United Kingdom
PJ Media ^ | 14 Dec, 2019 | Rick Moran

The fallout from the Conservative Party's massive win in the British elections continues. It's washed ashore in America, as the far left is fearful that the results do not bode well for the eventual Democratic candidate against Donald Trump.

But of more immediate concern to the British is what is happening in Scotland as a result of the election. The separatist Scottish National Party destroyed the Conservatives as the Tories now hold only one seat. This has emboldened the SNP to prepare to call for a second referendum on independence.

The first referendum in 2014 was fairly close with those voting against independence winning 55-45. But the Scots are strong supporters of the EU, voting 62-38 to Remain. And with Brexit now assured by Johnson's election and the SNP in such a strong position politically, it's an open question whether Boris Johnson will be the last prime minister of a truly "United" Kingdom.

Scotland’s a welfare state that’s a constant drain on the rest of the U.K. Without the welfare pounds from the south they’ll be in poverty and they know it. Oil isn’t going to bail them out, as someone else mentioned Venezuela has lots of oil too and we see how well that’s working out.

Without England to pay their way they’re going to have a hard time of it, golf tourism and sheep aren’t going to pay the bills.

Scotland has been saying goodbye to England for hundreds of years.

Just DO IT.

See how successful you will be when you are standing alone dealing with the dreaded, UE.

These people appear not to have any foresight.

Good, let them. Scotland should leave the UK just like (most of) california should leave the USA. Jefferson (northern cali) should break from california and then petition to enter the union.

Scotland goes independent and its economy is based mostly on North Sea Oil.

Scotland joins the EU and their Green Agenda, which ends Scotland’s oil production.

If Scotland does this, it shows how stupid they truly are.

But how is Scotland going to join the EU if they’re not wanted?

But how is Scotland going to join the EU if they’re not wanted?

The socialists want to power and control everything, so they would always accept new EU members, especially dependent ones.

The greater threat to the EU is if the UK thrives after Brexit and more nations look to leave....Brussels will take anyone to keep their power.

The Brits should say that a tiny island cannot contain two countries and just squash the idea of scotland being a real thing once and for all. One island one country. England.

He suggests Spain would veto their application because Spain doesn’t want to encourage their own Catalan.

He also notes how dependent Scotland is on UK subsidies for their economy.

Well, with the size of the new Royal Navy, they sure don’t need Scapa Flow, anymore! They and the US will need a replacement base for the boomers, but I am sure that can be arranged.

The Scots will be so pleased to be rid of those two bases and the filthy money that comes from them!

Oil and gas account for about 1.2% of the UK economy. Its bugger all in the grand scheme of things.

The Scotnats also erroneously assume that Scottish territorial waters would begin at a flat parralel East of Berwick rather than trend North and East in line with the English-Scottish border.

Oil and gas would account for a more significant share of Scotland’s economic output than that of the UK as a whole, but this is a weakness, not a strength. The volatility of oil would see Scotland’s economic fortunes crash with a decline in oil. Indyscotland would have been dramatically affected by the rapid decline in oil from about $110 a barrel at the time of the last referendum result in 2014 to about $55 a barrel today.

Scotland could ill afford a world of low oil prices, especially when the shipbuilding and defence industries would decamp to England and Wales to provide jobs and strategic, sovereign skillbases for citizens in the rUK.

The only real issue I could see for England is the fact that Trident would have to move out of Scotland, as Faslane is by far the most suitable location and there isn’t really anywhere in England that is sufficiently distant from a major population centre and has deepwater access to the Atlantic to slip in and out undetected by Russian subs.

Milford Haven in Wales is the only really viable location but that was rejected originally because it was too close to a gas terminal.

“The Jacobites killed the Scottish Spirit. Two generations of fighting men were lost because of those weasels. The Battle of Culloden took the wind out of their sails and they’ve yet to recover.”

I don’t think this is really true. The numbers of Scots who joined the Jacobites was miniscule, and most Scots had no time for Jacobitism because they were mostly zealous Presbyterians rather than Catholics or High-Church Anglicans/Episcopilians who were predisposed towards Jacobitism.

And the Scots have had a very distinguished military history in the subsequent centuries as part of the British Army. The highland regiments were feared by their enemies and the Germans called them the ‘ladies from hell’ due to their kilts and ferocious fighting spirit.

The scots used to be such independent he-men. I guess centuries of subjugation and socialism have damaged their DNA, leaving to be euro-weenies.
