You can turn off autocorrect, which helps a lot. You still need to proofread, and the device still wants to misspell words on your behalf. But the errors do decrease with autocorrect off.

It is a typical modern convenience. It actually can be helpful for speed's sake once you get the hang of watching the words that he device is anticipating before you hit the “space bar”. I typically leave it on when using a phone and off when using a tablet. But often the errors that are found when you take the time to carefully proofread are amusing, not to mention the ones that make it past scrutiny and actually get posted.
