I told him I find it kind of hard to believe with all the military planning/precision that seems to have gone into this movie we are watching that a valuable player like JE would be left lying around with a burn notice in the care, custody and control of cabal.

FWIW Steve Pieczenik agrees with you. Says the CIA makes a point of taking care of its own and he is probably alive and out of the country right now. SP of course knows that world very well.
