There are at least 20 US military bases in Germany. Seems like they’re just forward bases to the Middle East these days.
You are correct, our remaining bases in Germany are primarily command/control, logistical and medical support for US forces in the Middle East and Africa as well as our contingents in the 3 Baltic republics, Poland, Ukraine, and a couple of other former communist east European countries.
The only Army combat forces are in 2 brigades (1 ground, 1 aviation) in Ansbach and Grafenwohr/Vilseck/Hohenfels Training Areas, both of which are in Bavaria. There is another Army combat brigade in Vincenzia, Italy
