I got one of his books at the Goodwill because one of my BIL reads them all the time. I read two chapters and stopped. I asked myself..why am I wasting my time. Patterson couldn't have used any mystery board or planning of plots or sub-plots..he just wrote without any plot build up or character building. It was like reading a magazine short story for a child.
Another example...we had two local artist here in my area around the 60's/70's/80's...both very popular. One was very good and I have some of his work. The other was way over rated judging his skill. I told several people my thoughts especially a friend. He taught my friends daughter at a local private school. This daughter went to an art school in Cincy and struggled and returned home very heartbroken. Her dreams gone.
One of my drawing classes at college my art professor just happen to talk one day about this poor artist. He hit the poor talent smack on the head. The artist knew nothing about mixing colors but instead painted out of the tube basically. So as a writer an artist has to mix and blend in order to make something or someone with lots of character. No blending is shallow and dull. This is what my friends daughter learned at her art school. She was like a grade-schooler among college artist. SAD.
