Simliar experience here on a few occasions. Not like something you take and want to keep on taking like “drugs” in general. More like visiting a museum. Just a really weird museum where everything is absurd and a you laugh your ass off.

Found Doors of Perception by Huxley helpful saying basically the same as you. Castaneda though, wrongly glorified journeys that you didnt need to keep taking to achieve higher levels. Prayer or meditation are worthy alternates.
Its a more complicated world than most could imagine and each person has their curiosity and limits on how far they care to test themselves both physically, emotionally and mentally.
In the end I found I hated not being in control and that it wasnt about controlling the trip but avoiding the use / self abuse altogether.
I am convinced the use of psychedelics can have its beneficial uses for various types of chronic mental illness. A good look behind the curtain can have the ability to make you crave and work towards normalcy.
