Are you sure the iPhone doesn't have a "Text-to-Speech" feature?

I'm on MacOS, not iOS -- but I'd look under "preferences" for "Speech & Text"

Mine was already turned on. All I need do is highlight the text and hit "Option-Esc" -- or whatever key combination I choose for that function. In fact it just read the preceding sentence to me -- and you can select between several male or female voices, and set the reading speed...

If your phone has a "help" function, try that...
