A unanimous vote by the Lynn school committee Thursday night will make condoms, birth control and emergency contraceptives available at high schools in the Massachusetts city.
The meeting room was packed with parents giving their input, many concerned it's taking away their parental rights.
"She's 14. I don't believe she's ready for sex. I think kids are very immature these days. By handing out birth control and condoms, it's like giving them permission to go out and have sex," said parent Johnnieann Pahlm.

"Moral clap trap?!" I dare say God disagrees with you. Besides the risk of some forms of birth control acting as an abortifacients , a principle in Scripture is that with blessings come responsibility, and that we are not to act contrary to God's purposes for creating something. Here, God created sexual relations as a blessing, and with it come responsibility, most importantly that of accepting the product that God designed this activity to result in, which is that of the conception and birth of a new life.
People are going to have sex.
The fact that man will abuse what God has created (as in here, engaging in sexual relations before marriage) simply does not justify either preventing conception of terminating it. The problem as regards teens is that the government and media etc. promoting fornication (and erotica) as a norm, from co-ed school education to films and scantily-clad "stars" to penalizing marriage.
As for your premise that "birth control is vastly superior to teen pregnancies," just why is that so? Because those involved should not or do not take responsibility for the natural God-ordained consequences for their actions? Then the problem is just that attitude, which your counsel encourages.
If the couple are unwilling to get married, there is a waiting list of people waiting to adopt (but which I think the system makes harder for the typical evangelical family).
You can point to the negative stats in single parent kids, but which also is a result of disobedience to God, and part of the answer is to deal with the welfare system that fosters it.
And by using BC then conservatives have helped to provide a demographic advantage to the 1.5 child bearing liberals, who obtain such advantage mainly thru immigration.
And by relegating the word of God to "moral clap trap" then you misuse the gifts God has given you.
Turn them inside out and use them again
not everybody is religious.
I’m not.
That was then. I'm talking about now.
In some underclass cultures, having a baby is a status symbol.
Daniel, I dare say you have not one clue what God thinks. So don’t you dare attempt to tell me the mind of God.
If something feels good, and there are no immediate and obvious consequences, then teens are going to do it.
God tries to give us some idea of His intentions through the Bible.
From your Bible readings, does it seem He encourages unlimited sexual license?
Really? So the Bible does not give us even one clue about what God thinks? Really? And what are your thought on abortion? Legal in most cases?
Then as a guest on this pro-God (of the Bible) forum what is your sure standard morality that we can hold you to?
Abortion is murder.
Our Bibles are so far removed from truth it ain’t even funny. I am more inclined to read Torah.
At least you have that right, in occurrence with Scripture, even if you may reject some other basic teachings. Just what is your sure standard of morality that we can hold you to, and judge the beliefs and actions of others by?
Don’t lie, don’t steal, be honest, love people, treat others as you wish to be treated. The bible says NOTHING about what age to have sex. There are lots of instances of dudes with multiple wives, people killing each other and so on in your sainted Bible. Marriage (with a license) is a statist construct. So give it a rest.
By giving kids free birth control?
OK, what does the Torah (and Talmud too) say about fornication?
I recall a certain level of disapproval....
None of it says anything. Are you freaking kidding me? Those old folks had sex all the time. Quit being weird.
The Torah, Talmud, and New Testament are unanimous in declaring sex should happen within marriage. There are lots of social and civilizational reasons for that. In the times where that was more strictly enforced, it was also the norm to have girls married off young (typically 13), to a man who had gotten her parents approval, so as to better ensure that sex stayed within marriage.
Ok, you have now demonstrated that you have negligible knowledge or concern about Biblical/Torah standards regarding sex.
i don’t quite understand the question?
you don’t think i should be here because I’m not religious? Pretty sure they will take my money regardless.
