Lovely. Wish it wasn’t so cold out!

Long ago and far away, I had a job at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. My dream job, giving hallway lectures and polishing gold and silver astrolabes, and cataloging the oldest books printed. (I checked out on the Zeiss but was told I couldn’t give Zeiss lectures because I was a woman, and a woman’s voice wasn’t authorative in the dark.) And we all went out to the Dunes in Indiana and lay under blankets watching the Perseid shower. Ah, the difference between meteors in August and November.

The Leonid meteor shower peaks early in the morning on Nov. 17. Cloudy forecast in my patch of sky...

..the Adler Planetarium in Chicago..

My absolute Top Memory from growing up was (I think I was 8 or 9) sitting there in the Zeiss with my Dad and thinking about getting to go "out there" and see the Real Thing someday.

The Adler and the Brookfield Zoo are really the things I miss most about moving away from Illinois.
