Perhaps it was a full-blown canary trap. Recall that the original transcript was placed in a top-secret vault, so that accessing it inappropriately and leaking it would be a crime. What if Trump’s team substituted a false transcript for the real thing. Schiff then accessed and read out the false transcript, (1) making him look like an idiot, and (2) incriminating him in a federal crime.
