Beautiful tree. I’ll have to take a picture of our papaw tees, they are the last to turn and are that lemony yellow color.

Two more for you .... a relative took these in her garden - these are my favorite butterfly pics taken this year - I've never seen a Zebra Swallowtail on our place:

wowie wowie. Thanks. I do 3 brain exercises daily in the morning, a few puzzles, a few mahjong games and a memory tile game. When it comes to puzzles I love color and nature, flowers, butterflies, underwater, birds, etc. These are really beautiful. We have had on occasion a zebra swallowtail, rare. I don’t share or publish pics in the puzzle world but I do steal. Thanks again.

We’ve had a bunch of green maters out there for over a month.

No sign of ripening on the bush.

I’ll probably have to bring them in and ripen them indoors.

Not a Tasha recipe----but I'm sure she'd love this toothsome treat.

APPLESAUCE BARS WITH CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

ING Bars: ¼ cup butter, cup packed brown sugar 1 egg,
cup ea applesauce, flour tsp baking soda ½ tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmeg

ING Frosting: 4 oz cream cheese, 2 tb butter, 1 1/4 cups conf, tsp vanilla

METHOD mix butter, brown sugar and egg smooth. Stir in applesauce.
Add flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg mix/just combine.
Spread evenly into Greased 8x8 inch baker (a pyrex dish rather than a metal pan is good).

Bake 350 deg 20-25 min (pick comes out with just a few moist crumbs). Remove to cooling rack.
Spread Frosting over cooled bars then cut into squares. Store in refrigerator.

Cream Cheese Frosting: beat smooth cream cheese and butter. Mix in vanilla, then slowly mix in conf.

I haven’t seen a Zebra Swallowtail in years! What a treat! Thanks for sharing that.

I have plenty of the Black and Yellow ones, though. :)

The only gardening going on around here. I'm in between alfalfa sprout batches. 2 bunches of basil, in a south window. Notice all the new white roots. Should last until January. If Michigan had more sun in the winter they would probably last longer.

Also a last shot of my paw paw trees from a few days ago. Max lemon color. Today we have light snow and it's kind of a bummer. The tallest is 9-10 feet. I had flowers for the first time this year and tiny bunches of fruit but the birds got them all. Grrrrrr.

Farmer’s Almanac comes through with a good article on storing fall vegetables through winter without a root cellar:

These would make a nice addition to a holiday brunch.
Makes about 18-20 depending on how much you fill muffin tins

CRANBERRY MUFFINS WITH BUTTER SAUCE

ING Muffins: 3 tb butter, softened, cup ea sugar, evap/milk 2 cups flour 3 tsp b/powder 1 tsp salt 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries

ING Butter Sauce: 1/2 cup butter cup sugar 1/2 cup whipping cream tsp vanilla

METHOD cream butter, sugar. Add milk, flour, b/powder, salt. Fold in cranberries. Divide evenly in paper-lined muffin tins
(about 2/3 full; can use large ice cream/cookie scoop). Bake golden 350 deg 20-23 min (pick comes out clean). Now make Sauce.

Serve warm with warm sauce dribbled over.

SAUCE Stir over med; BTB butter, sugar, whipping cream. Offheat stir in vanilla.

I’ll have to dig out my recipe. I’ve used one from an historic restaurant, ‘Quivey’s Grove’ here in the Madison area for the past decade. Cranberry Orange. So, SO good! They make them only in November and December and serve them instead of bread to start the meal. :)

Some of us have Christmas Cactus blooming NOW (like me!) so if you have a chance to get one this Christmas season, please do! Easy care and rewarding. I’ve had my ‘Peach’ for 10 years, now.
