He drags them across the finish line if he has to. It’s in his interest to see them succeed. He needs their vote. He needs their influence down range and down ballot.

My step father had 5 young children when he married my mom, his ex-wife was an alcoholic. My mom raised them in addition to all of us, they really lucked out with her in their lives. They became doctors, social workers, lawyers, etc thanks to my mom.
