I’d highly recommend The Prince. It’s not what people think, about how to misuse power. It’s a general exposition of the divisions of power in a state and what a new prince needs to know to remain in power. It was kind of an abstract for his consulting approach, as it seems Machiavelli was a consultant of sorts.
