Is so(or Not) Why?
There’s another thread running, started by someone who had seen it and loved it.
Thank you. I’m just starting to see articles about it and will strongly consider seeing it.
Back in the ‘70s there was a TV mini-series, “Pearl” , that I liked a lot. I don’t recall that it was heavy on historical accuracy or anything, but I did enjoy it.
“It looks like (for Hollywood) theyre making a credible effort.”
I’ve read that it’s an independent film, so that could make it watchable.
They are called, “Japs”, according to another thread.
“1941. A great movie!”
It was for sure! And I pretty much don’t “do” war movies. I liked, “Patton” , too.
A few years ago I watched a Russian film called “Russian Ark” that was shot in one continuous shot.
Pretty impressive.
No need to care what he wrote of course. My post wasn’t confrontational. I was weighting whether to go see it or not, saw this very funny review and figured I post it here.
Midway 2019 is FAR superior to Midway 1976. Saw it Sunday. Midway 2019 is not only a great war film, its a great movie, period.
Its historically accurate, offers interesting character studies of dive bomber hero Richard Best and military intelligence commander Ed Layton, and it incorporates the key new research from Shattered Sword.
And theres no political correctness or apologist taints. Japs is uttered quite a bit, and why not? That all happened.
Midway 2019 is a story of American exceptionalism, determination, and heroism. It depicts the forbidding landscape and dire straits of late 1941 and the first half of 1942. It tells the tale brilliantly of how we created one of WW2s three hinges of fate.
It shows how we got knocked down, got off the mat, and then delivered a haymaker that crippled a literal evil empire.
Against all odds, the underdog USA, our citizen pilots and sailors, triumphed in one of the greatest victories of all time. And thats what this movie shows.
couldn’t care less if he writes for Military Times - he’s a journalist - maybe he was trying to prevent people from seeing a movie that’s great and shows America in a good light.
Either way, he can buzz off
Plus Midway is #1 at the box office, so I’m sure that triggered this journo-dolt even further.

And you’d be wrong.
Japs is uttered, and not just once.
Saw Midway 2019. A great movie. And a great war movie.
It’s not politically correct.
