Congress refused to eliminate funding for NPR, PBS and the NEA.
The biggest supporters of these agencies are the wives of congressmen and senators. The wives serve on the boards, and several times a year they and their husbands appear at the Kennedy Center for awards ceremonies in which they signal their virtue.
