St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter is speaking out about the most recent shooting in the city.

Two males were shot just blocks away from Allianz Field during Sunday night's Minnesota United game.

Monday morning, the mayor is making a new plea to stop gun violence. Carter is calling on all city and community leaders to come together to stop the senseless violence.

Sunday night's shooting happened outside a laundromat at about 7:30 p.m. just blocks from Allianz Field where 20,000 people were attending the playoff soccer game.

The two males, identified as a 16-year-old and 24-year-old, were shot but are expected to be OK. The 16-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the 24-year-old was grazed in the head by a bullet but also suffered a gunshot wound to his arm. All injuries are not considered to be life-threatening, according to police.

A suspect was arrested, but police are still looking for a second suspect. One gun was found at the scene.

"It's shocking when something like this happens and it's more concerning when we have a soccer game," Steve Linders, spokesman for the St. Paul Police Department, said.

Linders added five people in total were shot in the city over the weekend. Police said more than 130 people have been shot in the city this year and 24 have died. Of the 24 deaths, 22 of them have involved guns.

"This is too predictable, this is too consistent, it's too repetitive," said Carter Sunday night. "We see ourselves stuck in a cycle. We have boosted police resources, we've boosted patrols and challenged neighborhoods, and it's very clear that solving this problem is going to require so much more than police resources. It's going to require our non-profit partners; it's going to require our pastors it's going to require our community leaders, the mothers in our community, the friends, all of us put together."

Carter said he wasn't at the soccer game, but said he is angry the city saw yet another shooting. He said he'll take immediate action to gather city and community leaders for a discussion.

"What's heartbreaking about this isn't that it happened near a soccer game, what's heartbreaking about this is that it keeps happening in our city and it's time to do something fundamentally different to stop these cycles of violence," Carter said.

Carter said he will also pull the city's cabinet together to discuss what roles different city departments can play to keep St. Paul safe.

St. Paul, like Minneapolis, has a gang problem. So, it's up to US to solve the Mayor's problems.

The most telling part of Carter's speech...

"It's going to require our non-profit partners; it's going to require our pastors it's going to require our community leaders, the mothers in our community, the friends, all of us put together."

Notice that "fathers" aren't mentioned anywhere.

"Notice that "fathers" aren't mentioned anywhere."

because they're doing the shooting?

realistically all the discussion and hand holding and kumbaya moments will not stop low intelligent, impulsive, violent people from shooting and stabbing and raping and beating others.....

frisk people in the high crime areas.....and profile while you're at it...

take guns away from criminals and ferals and put them in jail and keep them there.....

130 shot, 24 died. But only 22 involved guns. What where the rest shot with ????

Odd sentence or am I reading it wrong ?

“...it’s going to require our community leaders, the mothers in our community...”

When you see the word “community” used in this sort of context, it’s kind of like a code word, meaning you don’t have to go on line to see what the victims/perps look like.

Any guesses about the pigmentary persuasion of the shooters (and the victims)?

Blue cities, counties and states reap the benefits of their politics. No sympathy here.

Isn’t this the same city that says police should NOT be armed?

Didn’t they reduce the numbers of officers?

You cannot fix stupid.

Gee do you suppose the guns used in those crimes were legally purchased and the buyers passed background checks? Were the guns used the dreaded AR-15 type assault weapons or equipped with “100 bullet clips”?

The word “community”, triggers me. Whenever I see or hear it, I know it’s gonna cost me money.

Oh and “White People” are gonna get blamed for something.

I have an idea for Mayor Carter. Gun confiscation.

We all know that banning guns will end gun violence. Pass a city ordnance banning guns and then begin a door-to-door confiscation program. Easy peasy!

I’d luv to get a fly on the wall when this plan is presented to the police chief.
