The federal government has apparrently stop giving out funds. Ocracoke Island, which was hit by Hurricane Dorian, just got rejected for FEMA funds even though half thw residents are out of there homes as a result of the flooding.
Something I noticed on the houses that have the fences facing the downward slopes. The fires looked exceptionally intense there. I was wondering how many of these home owners have been throwing yard waste over the back fences. The old argument that it is biodegradable is true however it is also highly combustible. Just seemed a bit odd to me and I have seen that before fighting fire in NoCal as a volunteer back when I was younger. I see zero land mitigation or control in these shots.
I hope none get injured in all this but it should be a valuable lesson.
Really? Ocracoke Island is most certainly a candidate for either (A) generous funds for being a nice place hit so hard, or (B) zero funds for being stupid enough to live on a tiny island with a high point of 27 feet.
I like Ocracoke Island. Pity it got slammed, and no surprise.
