Explain why the two R are not just dividing the vote, please. Or are they both not R.

This is a Jungle primary. The top two candidates will advance to the general election unless one candidate gets more than 50%. The name of the game now is to keep Edwards below 50%.
Louisiana has always had what you refer to as “jungle primary”. The Governors race has 6 candidates, 3 Rep. 2 Dems and 1 Independent. The LT Governor only an R and D. However, the Secretary of State has 3 R’s and 1 D. But, when you go to the Comm. of Agriculture 3 Dems and 2 R’s. Now the Commissioner of Insurance has just 2 candidates, both Republicans. My State Senate district election is really interesting. 3 R’s, 1 Dem and we have Libertarian running.
