Dude, the “him” clearly refers to the “leaker”. We still don’t know the sex of the reporter.
I’ll concede it does, after several more readings, but... Clearly? No.
It is poorly written. It isn’t clear. Rewrite it in spoken, active voice and then it will sound much clearer.
