This is absolutely unacceptable. I heard months ago that PG&E was planning on doing this. Now SoCal Edison too. For all these months, nothing has been done. No planning. No preparation.
All these years/decades the CA politicians & public utilities have wasted our tax money and refused to do any infrastructure upgrades. It is a sad day when our choice is either no electricity or wildfires.
This is the same thing as the Oroville Dam. They neglected to heed the advice of a report years prior to the dam bursting.

Gavin Newsom, the Communist Governor of California this week defended utility companies such as Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and SoCal Edison for cutting off electricity to hundreds of thousands of people in order to ‘prevent dangerous wildfires.’
“I think it is excessive,” said state Dem Senator Jerry Hill. ”PG&E clearly hasn’t made its system safe. These shut-downs are supposed to be surgical. But shutting down power to 800,000 people in 31 counties is by no means surgical.”
“This cannot be something that can be acceptable nor long-term,” Hill said. “This is third world, and we are not.”
