just an FYI...I found the Hastings transcript.
The Senate found him guilty on all 17 counts.
for each count, the verdict read:
“Wherefore, Judge Alcee L. Hastings is guilty of an impeachable offense warranting removal from office.”
So I guess the senate gets to say how severe the punishment is to be.
I don’t think the Senate can do that.
I think the real explanation is the fact that Hastings beat the rap (bribery) in court. That pumped enough life into his “Race Card” that no GOP’er had the guts to challenge the legality of his running or his re-admission into the House. Via the Constitution both Houses set their own rules of seating & behavior.
