Correct. Robert F. Kennedy was so embarrassed about the famous censure vote that he arranged to be absent from the senate floor that day to avoid voting.

But the point is that even if all the popular narrative about "McCarthyism" is true, it lasted a mere five years, from his initial charges in his February 1950 speech until the senate censure vote in December 1954.

I'm not sure we can pinpoint where the era of political correctness started, but it is still running amok.
