Of course the victim has the right to self defense.
And it is plain and clear that all responsible adult parties failed utterly. The animal that was killed already had more than enough of a record of violence and aggression that he should never have been let loose around other children.
Not only should the verdict be overturned - and it probably will - but the kid should be handed a medal. He probably saved many future victims of violent crime.
