You have photographers taking pictures, and they usually take more than on and pick the one they want, so politicians' handshakes usually take longer than other people's. Trump knows that. Macron knows that.

Moreover, politicians are usually "tactile" people who like to establish contact with others. There are also always questions of dominance and submission in political handshakes.

Shake hands harder or longer and you establish who's boss. The way that body contact can establish dominance may the reason why politicians are such "tactile" creatures.

In any event, it's not so strange or so terribly interesting.

In business you of ten meet a guy that is trying to dominate with his handshake. I usually let them get away with it and screw them on the money part of the deal.
