Plants grow back...Quickly. Plants that can tolerate the dry season grow back, but the dense rainforest takes a long time to grow back. Where they studied it in India it took 5-10 years to get brushy but 25-75 years for the shade trees.

Its a rain forrest. Plants grow back...Quickly. Actually, no. The nutrients in the Amazon rainforest soil are mostly near the surface, and the shallow roots of most trees there reflects that. Farmers only get a season or two out of the soil, then its shot.
