It’s hard to imagine who in gov would be spying on Hitlery for political leverage; since she had all the leverage needed to spy on everyone else. It does seem her name was likely tossed on to make it the whole spying stuff look less partisan. Or make her a supposed victim too.

There was no real interest by the Derps at FBI to spy on HRC. This never started out as a spying operation on the part of Butina. Derps at FBI, McCabe and Comey, used it to build a case against Republicans (Trump, Cruz, Rubio). HRC was out of the mix almost immediately. Probably tipped of by Comey to stay away from Butina because FBI was about to use her.
HRC in turn took this information and started building her own ‘Insurance Policy’ by having Ohr and Steele develop the dossier that was used to open the investigation. This was supposed to be the ‘additional information’ that destroyed whoever won the GOP nomination.
That makes me think Trump and team did not implicate themselves with any meetings with Butina. It is interesting that Butina was arrested while Sessions was AG and placed in solitary confinement. Butina is a supporter of the NRA and that was mentioned quite a bit back when she was arrested.
