Does this always happen when the computer is idle for a long time? Maybe your screen saver timed out & your computer went into power saver mode. Did you change your screen saver or power mode timer settings, or did MS change them for you?

Are the dots your background mode?

Yes, when its idle for a while. But strange...through the night quite often my computer screen will come on ..on its own for a short time and then fade black. Did not change anything. MS keeps bugging me a couple times a day to update..saying they have lost my password. AS if I had a password. I ignore it.
