I had to start bathing one of our cats who wasn’t able to. I put the cat in a carrier that opened at the top and had open sides. I put some diluted baby shampoo on her first. And a towel inside the carrier so she wouldn’t slide around. And a doubled up towel under one end outside the carrier. That helped make the water run out quickly as to not scare her. Turned the shower on low and sprayed it inside the carrier. She welcomed the dry soft towel once the bath was done.
