Todays Hallmark Home &Fanily had a beautiful girl on with her mother. The girl was a beauty queen and opera singer. She talked about her life growing up with Autism. Said what helped her so much was the interview sessions one must go through in becoming a beauty contestant. She had to learn to look at people when she talked. She said it wasn't a natural behavior for her. She commented that autism wasn't a death sentence. Her life was filled mostly with boys while growing up because boys were more commonly labeled with autism. So socializing with girls took more effort.
Then they asked the mother what would she advise other mothers. She said at the beginning (per-school)the problem with teachers they wanted to center on what she couldn't do instead of what her strengths were. The positive is what helps you understand different paths to go with your child. As with her daughter it was singing. So she made sure she got to develop her singing and other areas. Its important to center on positive. It was a very good show.
