Imma have a conversation witchew about menal healthcare.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve seen good places and I’ve seen bad places. But the worst places I’ve seen are some of the ‘group’ homes where they just dose em up and sit em in front of the teevee.
Of course, IMO, that’s more humane than letting them leave the emergency room with 10 days of psychotropics and tell them to “take your pills with every meal” - and then throw them onto the streets where they might be lucky to get one meal..
Half of those picked up yesterday have returned to their homes/work.
Same applies to the group homes. My mother was in two of them in the last couple of years of her life and it was the only place in the health care system where she actually could make friends and have personal relationships with people. However, it was understaffed, and the people, good hearted as they were, were enormously underpaid, and worked incredibly long hours.
