Exactly! Added & abetted by the changes in mental treatment that started in the 1970s - that of “mainstreaming (Their term ! Not mine)” the patients. “Mainstreaming” is where the patient is kept in the community often on his own minimally supervised. Treated by therapy sessions & drugs. The problem often they’re too difficult for parents (many single parents- usually women!) to see that they reliably tend the sessions and take their drugs. Once they reach the age of majority there’s no immediate legal way of forcing them to continue treatment. States were more then happy to adopt these policies, it saved them healthcare money & put the responsibility on others. Then factor in people mentally damaged by recreational drug use and you have a probably large stream of potential time bombs going into the population well over what might occur naturally.

The point is you don’t need convoluted complex conspiratorial reasons to explain this. Stupid short sighted mental health policies & rampant recreational drug use for two generations more then covers it.
