After showing up 4 hours late he told me I was disrespecting him by telling him what jobs to do first, and said thats not how its supposed to go.
Believe it or not those are actually the Federal Government rules for being an independent contractor.

those are the rules for income tax purposes. Corporations were hiring "contractors in name only" but treating them like employees, until some of them sued for employee benefits.
The IRS cracked down on rules for contractors that distinguished them from employees. I doubt that a millenia hired to do odd jobs around the lawn will be subject to taxes.
