The game of dodgeball has been under the evil eye for several decades now. Yes it’s fun but several states have banned it because the rubber balls do hurt badly if hit more so in the face and kids, well boys do sometimes go out of their way to hit very hard usually on the girls but not always.
When I was in school this was the case and after I left the county made them quit using rubber balls and only Nerf ones. Other states like I said just outlawed the game.
Personally I’m not against dodgeball just use the Nerf balls.
To get to my kids’ Sunday School rooms I have to walk through a large area where they sing and play games. A couple of weeks ago the game was dodge ball. Some boys were still running around playing at the end. While I was waiting with other parents outside the rooms, a boy hit me smack in the face from about 4 feet away with a rubber ball. Since I was not playing and was looking towards the door I was blindsided. Yes, it stung.
I’m sure he was aiming at someone behind me, but I told my kids if they ever accidentally hit an adult like that they had better apologize instead of just running away.
Those balls really do hurt. I remember well. Boys and girls play and boys can throw harder than girls. I would not shed a tear if they did away with that game, frankly.
It’s possible the hit was done in anger. If the thrower walked up and threw the ball while very close this could have been an assault. I still think the school should handle it but its very possible this boy deserves punishment.
