Then I am obviously confused with Senate seats of which we have seen some lately... brain cells getting rusty. :^/ I cannot remember ever having a special election hereabouts.

Here is the prose.

4: When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.

Governors can fill Senate seats in the event of a vacancy, although there are some exceptions. In some states, such as Washington, the governor must appoint a senator of the same party as the vacating senator; a change of party can only be accomplished thru an election. In Massachusetts, the governor lacks the ability to fill a Senate vacancy and must call a special election to fill it.
