I wouldn’t say “like”, but I can appreciate the imagination...
To my limited knowledge it seems mankind just avoided the heck out of any radiation sources on Earth since, naturally, the area would cause huge unexplainable deadly mutations.
Radiation sickness may have been conflated with leprosy. They wouldn’t have understood either disease.
To continue our conversation just a bit with an example;
If a radiation-caused mutation arose in a group it would be (maybe) thousands of years before it became predominant. Today’s researchers would have no evidence to go on to tell whether the new DNA was from another group or not... absent ruins, monuments, art or other physical evidence.
And 50 thousand years ago we didn’t leave much that lasted.
The really old DNA from Neandertal has shown that most (iow, non-African) moderns have Neandertal DNA. To have 2% show up after that length of time shows that much (or even most) of our ancestors were Neandertal; our great-great-great-great-grands number 64, which is less than 2% each in our own cells.
And that 2% is NOT necessarily the same 2% across all of us. So your 2% and mine might be off by 1/2%, so between us, we have 2.5% of the Neanderthal genome.
Scientists now say that up to 70% of the Neanderthal genome is found within the current living population of homo sapiens!
From a two hour PBS special on the latest research on Neanderthals, from this past October:
Watch it here: https://www.pbs.org/program/neanderthal/
You might have to put in your local PBS Station web site to watch.
I’m not sure you can watch it without local PBS membership.
I just watched it on Amazon Prime, however.
Long url, sorry:
I'm hungry. I'm gonna go club something and cook it on a spit! ;^)
I think the Homo Erectus situation you mention may very well be. Yes, if you stray from the official narrative they will destroy you. I am now absolutely sure there is something being hidden with mass intent.
“The claims of a genetic bottleneck hasn’t panned out”
Well, I’ll be derned. I totally missed that change.
The Toba keyword, (mostly) chrono sort:
I only recognize 4 names out of 13.
I do recognize “Ergaster” as African, but I did not realize it dates to 1.9 mya, which definitely adds to the mystery of origin.
Not to worry!
Changes and new discoveries have been happening so fast it is almost impossible to keep up.
That’s why I love these threads! We educate each other well.
Thanks SunkenCiv!
Nope. This ain't climate change.
There are way too many competing and seriously debating scientists in this field these last few years it would impossible for a universal conspiracy theory to exist.
Moreover, there's been a ton new stuff on the genetic scale. Eske Willerslev of Denmark is right on the cutting edge, as is the scientists at the Max Planck Institute in Germany.
And China is now showing off a ton of recent discoveries.
This topic's super FReepy.
