And in other news: “Daddy, I want to pet the lion!”
“Stupid parents.”
100%
And they ran off leaving the girl behind? WTH?!
That was a bull. Can’t tell how close they were originally but it looks like they waited to the last minute to start moving ...or had approached too close to him while he was grazing... Parents pretty much said ‘hey kid, you’re on your own’
I live just north of YNP...
Back in the 80’s a French photographer handed his camera to a tourist and asked the tourist to take a photo of ‘Frenchie’ next to a bison.
The photo was a bit blurry with the bison goring ‘Frenchie’ in the neck and then tossing his head 40 feet.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Coward parents whose first instinct was NOT to PROTECT THEIR CHILD!
I live in ND and there are several Bison ranches NW of town.
When they start moving as a herd, you can feel the vibrations from the ground. When the ranchers move among them it’s typically from the cab or cargo bed of a large pickup truck. The males can weigh nearly a ton. You just don’t mess with that. Even the local teens, who are prone to acts of stupidity, don’t mess with them.
So, they just left the kid to fend for herself?
We had pulled off to the side of the road and rather suddenly found ourselves surrounded by a random wandering herd. They were actually snorting and looking in the windows.
My wife (a city girl) thought they were cute and wanted to roll down the window to pet them. No, I told her, they can flip this car as easily as I could push over a light dune buggy. We'll just wait them out.
After 20 tense minutes or so of sniffing and snorting, they got bored and wandered off. When I related our close encounter to a park ranger later on, he laughed and said I must be part Indian because we did exactly the right thing.
This happens every year, despite the ample warning signs written in several languages that are posted everywhere in the park.
If you dont respect Yellowstone, it will put the hurt on you.
Wonderful parents she has there.
They beat feet out of there and leave her fend for herself.
As long as you can run faster than the next guy, right?
That poor kid.
Not only injured but having those losers for parents.
Hope this is not the start of a new branch or penumbra,
of the Florida Girl/Woman meme.
In the future, if abortion is ever illegal, parents will just bring their children to yellowstone and parade them in front of the wildlife.
Ignorant parents - ought to have the child taken away for abandoning her.
Way to go, mom & dad!
“Run, honey!”
“What about Lisa?”
“Save yourself; we can always have another kid, but you’re irreplaceable.”
Don’t mess with the rabbits either.
The comments at the link run along the same vein.
There’s not a person who is defending the parents.
Nice form on the girl’s part.
Stuck it on the landing.
Aside from the bruises where the bison nailed her, I can see why she was not injured.
If she had landed on her head or in some other position, she would have been badly injured.
I sure hope those parent as proud of their behavior, videoed for posterity so everyone can see what cowards they were and what poor runners they were. Terrible form.
