Haven't kept the notes, but read an article that stated that Mueller, who's now 75, did not select the investigators, but rather, was selected as the figurehead by the investigators. At work, and not watching the hearings, but have noticed that he's been kept from speaking, except in simple, staged environments. He was brought in because he's got that big jaw and looks like a tough guy, specifically for optics. His voice gives away that he's no longer the tough guy the media portrayed.
It's not clear that he even knows that much about the investigation, although the report did read like it was written by someone who had trouble keeping a train of thought.
