Since consciousness comes from the soul, a living being, computers can never have concsiousness, I totally agree. For some reason some people want us to think this is possible. Why? Because they want us to think that people are merely machines. Then it’s okay to treat us like machines!

I believe you are exactly right, LJ.

This is very apparent in the business world, where humans are treated as the parts of the process that haven't been replaced yet.

But to get them ready for replacement, their job has to be redefined (dumbed down) such that a computer (or robot) could do it.

I really think this is the disaster we are careening towards, not self-aware robots but the marginalization of (superior to machines!) human intelligence.

And if “people are just machines/computers are just like people”, then people can be taken apart, thrown away if “malfunctioning” or forced to get “fixed”, etc.

It is very diabolical and they’ve been pushing this since the mid 80s at least.

Machines are only valuable if they do their job and aren’t malfunctioning. So if people=machines, then people have no intrinsic value. Utilitarian and atheist viewpoint. Leaves God and the fact that everyone is a child of God totally out of the equation. And if people=machines, it makes total sense to abort any child with the slightest defect (actual or potential) and to kill and human with any defect (actual or perceived). Voluntary “doctor assisted” suicide is just the beginning, people in EU have been “euthanized” against their will, for quite some time.

Disgusting and hateful and must be turned around.
