Use the GE "Time slider" (clock in the toolbar) to step back to 2/6/2017 --it's definitely there -- and sharp.
And, it appears to be there -- but blurred -- from 10/21/2016 thru 8/11/2017.

I just checked go ogle earth, and —there are no crosshatches— anywhere on that island!!!
it is still there (for me, when i try it, at least). look closely, on the beach, due south of the center of the island. it is a region ~150 ft roughly east-west x ~20 ft roughly north-south.
