A higher percentage of Republicans voted for civil rights in the 50’s and 60’s than Democrats. The only one that they didnt was the second vote in the House in 1968, after the Senate had put in some amendments on housing.
So just because Lyndon Johnson, a known racist, signed the act, to say that caused the dixicrats to suddenly join the GOP, who had always fought for civil rights, is a preposterous statement.

Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan both opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act. As did all conservatives of the time.
This current habit of conservatives to claim Rockefeller and Dirksen Republicans as their own while vilifying the liberal Democratic President that they collaborated with is tiresome and dishonest.

The hard Left hated Johnson while he was alive. Not a surprise to see Snopes continuing that venerable tradition. What’s new is seeing “conservatives” being their lapdogs.
