I suspect that’s why there were the rumors of him having Jewish relatives.
It would make sense as a source of the Jewish rumor about him. And if did have a jewish background, it would explain him being the most ruthless of all... to prove to anyone looking of his loyalty.
Lots of that kind of crap happened in the USSR also.
