i still believe water is an issue-the Coronado islands off mexico/san diego have to import water for a few Mexican soldiers on one island..

A weather site tells me the USVI get an average of 47” of rainfall per year.

That’s enough to plant native landscaping trees and have them survive.

The ‘treeless’ thing is deliberate.

The coronado islands appear to get 10” or less annually. So yeah, they’d have to import water.

The island appears to be thin soil on rock except for the lower areas.
