We do tend to take implications and turn them into full blown ironclad cases against people. We have to remember there’s a huge gulf between what we think we know and what can be proven, in court, which means it can’t be classified intelligence data that would expose sources and methods.
Maybe to some extent with the “IC” it’s not so much that they set out to do us harm, they just have to allow harm to happen to protect their sources and methods.
This is yet another reason that the counterintelligence activities should be stripped from the FBI. Either they’re supposed to be a law enforcement agency or they’re supposed to be an intelligence agency.
